LG has unveiled a new minimalistic design language for its upcoming smartphone. The design is quite a bit different from the current industry trend and incorporates a "Raindrop" camera along with symmetrical front and back curves.
LG notes in its announcement that while the flagship smartphones are shipping with a squarish camera hump at the rear, it has taken a different design approach. Its upcoming smartphone will feature three cameras and an LED flash in descending order by size "meant to evoke images of falling raindrops." The primary camera will jut out of the phone's body, while the other two camera lenses will sit flush beneath the rear cover glass.
LG will also debut a new 3D Arc Design with its next phone where "edges of the display and rear are symmetrically curved." As per the company, this will give a more natural in-hand feeling than its previous devices.
“Our upcoming smartphone will draw on the rich history of classic LG designs which have always been distinctive at first touch,” said vice president Cha Yong-duk, head of LG’s Mobile Communications Design Lab. “This handset will be a first-look at the competitive edge we will be bringing to every LG smartphone going forward.”
Rumors point to LG's next smartphone featuring a Snapdragon 765 chipset and 5G connectivity. The device will seemingly launch next month, though LG is yet to announce anything.
