Oppo has revealed a number of exciting concept devices at the 4th China International Industrial Design Expo (CIDDE). Made in collaboration with Oki Sato, CE and chief designer of famed Japanese design studio Nendo, the new “slide-phone” concept and “music-link” concept are focused on human-centered design. Although it is possible one or more of the concepts revealed could make it to market, they exist to demonstrate an approach to consumer technology that is more user-friendly that adapts to how people want technology to work for them.
The eye-catching “slide-phone” concept, despite its name, is actually a multi-segmented foldable device that can be folded and unfolded into different states or modes. It has been designed to address the rise of increasingly large smartphones that are less convenient to hold. The concept works by combining three foldable screens attached by hinges folding over in the same direction. An insertable stylus is also included for use when the screen is at its most fully extended in a more productivity focused position.
The “music-link” concept centers on a pair of TWS earphones and is joined by a smartwatch, an AI speaker, a portable charger and a wireless charger. When the TWS earphones and portable charging case are placed on the AI speaker, the music the user was listening to on their earphones seamlessly transitions from the headphones to the speaker. Oppo says that all the devices in the collection are designed to have a “symbiotic” relationship with each other that is aimed at keeping things simple for the user as they move between devices.
