The rumor mill has been working overtime, first with speculations that Google was planning to launch a foldable smartphone and then with reports that said plans for said smartphone have been canceled. Google, however, hasn’t issued an official word on the subject.

First, a leaked document obtained by 9to5 Google about a year ago suggested that the company was exploring building a foldable version of its popular Pixel smartphone. The tech rumor sleuths dissected the document and came to the conclusion that Google was considering announcing the device in the fourth quarter of 2021, which would have been now.

But that time has come, and with no announcement from Google, it’s back to the rumors to find out what happened. According to Gizmodo, Ross Young with Display Supply Chain Consultants said that his sources from inside the supply chain have confirmed that the foldable phone has been canceled.
