Android might be one of the most popular operating systems on the planet, but there's no hiding from one of its most irritating flaws. Unlike Apple's iOS which sees millions of iPhone models treated to the most up-to-date software (currently iOS 13), Google's rival software remains hugely disjointed with millions of users unable to get the latest version, Android 10.
In fact, the latest stats from Statcounter suggests 34 precent of all Android smartphones and tablets are still using Android 9.0 Pie and 18 percent are using Android 8.0 Oreo. Worst still, a colossal number of devices continue to run versions of Android that are years out of date – with eight percent using Marshmallow (first released 2015) and six running Nougat (first released 2016).
It's a big problem as it often means Android owners don't get the latest and greatest features or vital security updates. And now, it seems those who haven't been able to update to Android 10 face another blow as Google is releasing a new version of its popular Chrome browser that won't work on smartphones running anything other than Android 10 or later.
That will leave huge swathes of Android users unable to get the update. The report, which comes courtesy of AndroidPolice, means millions won't get access to this update and that's a terrible shame.

Although Chrome 85 won't look any different to previous versions of the browser it will have one big advantage as it jumps from 32-bit to 64-bit architecture. That might sound a bit geeky but there are reasons why it offers a better experience for Android fans.
Moving to 64-bit should mean the software is way more efficient meaning users should get some extra minutes of battery life. And that's not all as the newer version of Chrome could also be far more secure.
There's no official word from Google on when this new Chrome software will be pushed out globally but, if you want this latest version of the browser then you might want to try and update to Android 10 as soon as possible.
Not only will Chrome get better to use but you'll also be treated to more regular security updates. Android 10 also has plenty of bonus features such as Dark Mode, Focus Mode and Smart Reply which allows users to quickly navigate to other apps from a notification based on context.
