Google Play Services has become the first Android app to cross the 10 billion download mark on Play Store. The app that comes preinstalled on Android phones just signifies the huge user base of smartphones running on Android globally.
As per the description of the app on Google Play Store, the app is used to update Google apps and apps from Google Play. “This component provides core functionality like authentication to your Google services, synchronised contacts, access to all the latest user privacy settings, and higher quality, lower-powered location based services,” reads the description.
The Google Play Services app has been pre-installed on every Android phone since 2012, claims a report by 9to5Google and since the app is such an integral part of the functioning of an Android phone, it becomes easier for the app to reach such a landmark figure. The report also adds that since Android is installed on 2.5 billion devices, “reset devices” also contribute to crossing this 10-billion download figure.
Earlier this month, another Google app that hit a milestone figure was Google Meet. The video chat room app from the internet search giant hit the 100 million download figure on Google Play Store, doubling its download count in less than 2 months. Back in May, the app had crossed the 50-million download mark.
