I saw less than 5 people carry an HTC One M7 not including Nick Fury in The Winter Soldier. I saw maybe one person use the M8. HTC was never ever that popular even in their heyday. They catered to a niche, phone geek audience like Nexus did or what Pixel or mini iPhones do now.

Let's face it, Americans' only two choices are Apple or Samsung. The rest you need to worry how much they can support you after your warranty is over.

The result confirms the reason of the people's behavior: Let Google make the software, others to make the hardware.

The software features are late because Google tests them in more ways than others do. Moreover I'm not that person who would calmly give my usage data to a Korean or Chinese company

Higher cost and having to buy the phone outright at a time when most phones were heavily subsidized is ultimately why it failed. The software was not the issue one bit. Most people would take less features over heavy bloat, slow performance, and extremely delayed updates. Take phones like Xiaomi's Mi A1 and Mi A2. These phones were extremely popular because they offered good value for the money and ran stock Android. Apple is extremely slow to add new features, but iPhones continue to sell. Features are not the problem.

I can't imagine getting the S4 Google Play edition back then and losing half of all the functions and features that I was normally using. They were the reason I bought S4 in the first place!

While I love my bloatless phone, lackluster feature is what irks me from being in stock Android, even until now. For example, I can't monitor what device that uses my hotspot, Bluetooth file transfer is limited to certain file types, no further button customization, limited floating window capability (I'm in Pixel Experience right now and compared to MIUI, it's definitely underwhelming since the UI scale is unchanged). Some of these are still unavailable even with those various of custom ROMs.

"Most manufacturers dont put too much bloatware crap on their phones now."

Lmao they still do, but we have better processors and much more RAM and memory to handle it. Maybe it's a bit more optimized now, but the hardware is what helps the most.

The reason why stock android based phones failed is that they never offered to the same feature set that other Android skins offered.

The time when stock android was relevant has been long gone...

GPE died because of Google

Just like most stuff Google made, that website with a lost that mentions what Google killed through the years (a lot) does exist for a reason.

Yet I hope something more competent than GPE would come out, but as long Google makes Android that will never happen.

All can be disabled either when you first time start your phone or in settings.
No matter the country you buy your phone all ads can be disabled permanently.

Without that bloatware even 4GB ram would be suficient for Samsung phones.

IpsDisplay, 8 hours agoStock android sucks I have to download to many other apps from bunch of different developer... moreYou're kidding right? It's not bloated when you decide to install it yourself. It's bloated when anything you won't need or use is installed without your consent, or cannot be uninstalled.
