Foldable smartphones are coming on strong at the tail-end of 2021 with OPPO’s recent unveiling of its Find N device and Honor’s teasing of the Magic V foldable earlier today. Little is known about the Magic V so far other than it’s a foldable smartphone that will unfold into a tablet in the same sort of fashion as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3.
As you can see from the embedded tweet, Honor is holding its cards close to its chest. Will the Magic V be powered by a Snapdragon 778G or the reheated Snapdragon 870, or perhaps even the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1? There are no details yet, but it would seem likely that Honor’s first foldable could also be its first device to be powered by Qualcomm’s new flagship processor.
Honor may be an independent brand these days, but there’s no denying that its current crop of devices still contain a good amount of Huawei DNA in design, hardware, and even software. In the case of the Magic V, though, this isn’t a bad thing at all because hopefully some of Huawei’s Mate X2 heritage be present in Honor’s debutant foldable smartphone.
Details about the Magic V may be scarce, but Honor will hopefully reveal more substantial news on specs, availability, and pricing in the coming weeks, although it’s likely that the foldable will be a China exclusive for a time.
