- Well, we've got to track shares of smartphone giant, Xiaomi. They are on the move this morning as well. It's the latest Chinese industry player to unveil a new operating system across its products. Tech companies have long sought to build customer loyalty with their own operating systems like Apple's iOS and Google's Android.

US-sanctioned Huawei also recently unveiled its own operating system. But here are some of the details about Xiaomi's. And for those of you who are tracking the stock here this morning, it's up by about 6%. Now that we got that out of the way.

HyperOS is what they described it as. This is particularly interesting as it's a combination, they're saying, basically of a custom Android system plus this IoT platform Vela. Now, this touted HyperOS as well, human centric OS. I particularly don't know what a human centric OS. Just for full clarity, will look like or how that's different from what I've got in the palm of my hands for most of the day here.

That aside here, they're saying that it's essentially one single operating system for centralized and easier management. And it's a larger question for within the larger kind of competitive realm that we're seeing as IDC had tracked over the course of this year, Apple on pace to make sure that it was getting towards its largest market share at about a 19.9% by the end of 2023 of OS users on that iPhone or the Apple OS. This is particularly interesting because for Xiaomi, if this is successful, it would allow them to cut into some of those existing operating systems out there, such as Android and such as what we had seen already from Huawei as well.

- Yeah, certainly. I think that just in terms of the implications of this, why it's so significant is just the opportunity in terms of the addressable market out there, how big, how popular this could potentially get and also just how sophisticated this operating system potentially is. You talk about the fact, obviously, we have the US-sanctioned Huawei technologies trying to work towards more integration when it comes to OS completely here from Google's Android.

So talking about the opportunity here, exactly what that looks like, and also just the timeline of this. They're saying that the HyperOS is going to come pre-installed on the latest Xiaomi 14 smartphone series as well as some of the devices launched in their mainland Chinese market, like smartwatches and TVs. In terms of what it looks like beyond that, we're still getting some details on that.

It's going to be a rollout here across other products as well. But at least in terms of what we're seeing at first, it's going to be available in the Xiaomi 14 smartphone series. So we'll see.

- It's all about that ecosystem.

- It is.
