Today, neural networks surround us everywhere. They improve the autonomy and performance of our smartphones by learning about our habits. And Google decided to offer the ability to “pump” the Neural Networks API through Google Play. Corresponding drivers will soon start being delivered in the background via the app store.

Qualcomm and Google have announced that updates to the Neural Network APIs will be released alongside updates to Google Play services. Users will no longer have to wait for a major smartphone update to take advantage of the latest system improvements. Qualcomm cites Google Assistant and Google Maps as examples of apps that can be optimized to make them “better, smarter and more intuitive” as a result of these updates.

The Neural Networks API helps delegate some of the computations for the operation of neural networks to hardware platforms of mobile devices, increasing the overall performance of data processing. The new version of the API will be received by most Android mobile phones based on Snapdragon chips. We expect that not only new chips will be able to get updates but also those already released.

We do not yet know the exact time of the appearance of the new function. Qualcomm limited itself to promising “later this year”.

Android 12 smartphone users can turn them off with Google Assistant

Earlier this month, Google officially unveiled Android 12, the next iteration of its operating system. Among other things, the new version of the OS supports the activation of Google Assistant; with a long press of the power button. Now it became known that the assistant will receive support for a voice command to power off the device.

Since in Android 12, a long press of the power button activates the voice assistant, a question arises about the options for turning off the device. The developers may add a power button to the quick settings menu; but the source says it won’t be the only option. Enthusiasts have looked at the beta code for the Google search app and found indications that Android 12 will have more ways to disable the device.

First of all, users will be able to access the power menu by holding down the power and volume up buttons at the same time. In addition, you can turn off the device with a voice command for Google Assistant. At the moment, this function does not work in the public beta version of Android 12. When you try to turn off your smartphone through the voice assistant, it reports that the batteries are unavailable.

The source notes that the mentioned features are under development. This means that by the time the stable version of Android 12 launches, they may function differently. It is also possible that the developers will postpone their launch or completely abandon their use.
