Samsung looks set to release a phenomenal new smartphone featuring one new “holy grail” feature, but will it make up for other shortcomings?
Prolific leaker, @FrontTron, has revealed what could be the final camera specs for the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Unfortunately, save for one important feature, they don’t look particularly impressive.
According to the leak, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will come with an array of three rear cameras along with two front-facing lenses. However, these specs appear to offer no upgrade over the previous Galaxy Z Fold 2, suggesting almost identical camera hardware.
With three relatively small 12-megapixel sensors and a maximum 2x optical telephoto, the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s rear camera falls way behind current flagships, including Samsung’s own Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G which boasts a 108-megapixel main camera and up to 10x optical telephoto. And, if Galaxy Z Fold 2 pricing is anything to go by, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is likely to cost far more.
Where the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is expected to impress, however, is in its front camera configuration. This is tipped to become one of the first available with an invisible under-display lens, providing a huge uninterrupted display surface with no notch or punch-hole.
Such cameras are notoriously challenging to produce without substantial compromise, so all eyes are on Samsung to get this one right.
All will be revealed later this year.
