Another possible name candidate for Samsung’s rollable smartphone has just appeared. As some of you already know, Samsung trademarked the ‘Z Roll’ name quite recently. Well, the company has trademarked yet another similar name that could be used.
Samsung’s rollable smartphone gets another possible name candidate
The name in question is the ‘Z Slide’. To be quite honest, the ‘Roll’ name could be more appropriate, but the ‘Z Slide’ also fits. Samsung actually referred to its expandable display on a phone as a ‘slideable’, not ‘rollable’, in a recent promo video.
In that video, the company presented its upcoming display-related tech. A ‘slideable’ display was one of them. So, there’s still a chance that the phone will be called the ‘Galaxy Z Slide’.
Knowing Samsung, though, both names could end up being used. Samsung may release more than one version of a rollable smartphone, as it did with its foldable smartphones. Those different versions could feature entirely different names, hence the ‘Roll’ and ‘Slide’ references.
We are only guessing, though, of course, as that is the only thing we can do at this point. The Samsung ‘Z Slide’ name has been trademarked at EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office), and if it ends up being used, it will include the ‘Galaxy’ branding as well.
The company’s first rollable handset is expected to arrive in 2022
The company’s first rollable / slideable smartphone is expected to arrive in 2022. Some rumors did suggest it will get announced this year, but that’s not as likely.
Samsung is, however, expected to announce two foldable smartphones soon. Those devices are the Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3. We’ve heard much about them thus far, and they’re expected to arrive in August.
Samsung will, allegedly, host a huge press event, during which it will announce at least five devices. Those devices are the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3, S21 FE, Watch 4, and Watch Active 4. The company still hasn’t confirmed anything, though, so take this info with a grain of salt.
