Xiaomi has cemented its name as one of the biggest smartphone manufacturers around the globe. The company produces a wide range of products such as smartphones, tablets, electric scooters, smart TVs and many more. Xiaomi smartphones are currently selling all over the world. The company makes entry-level smartphones, midrange and flagship smartphones as well.
Xiaomi Smartphones Have Cheaper Prices
Xiaomi’s global smartphone popularity keeps growing each and every year and so is its income. The growth in popularity does not come as much of a surprise because the company makes some of the best smartphones in the world. The best part is that the company’s smartphones usually come with very competitive price tags.
Just like Huawei, the US commerce department tried to ban Xiaomi, but the Chinese company won the case in a lawsuit. The company keeps growing in several countries especially in India where it is one of the top smartphone brands.
Despite its popularity and growth, the company’s sales seem to look quite odd lately. This has drawn the attention of Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun who has addressed a letter to the employees of the company, according to reports.
Gizchina News of the week
Sales of Xiaomi Smartphones Are Dropping
The problem of the company is that its smartphone sales are not going as the company expected. This is because users are beginning to choose other brands over Xiaomi.
A report from research company Counterpoint shows that smartphones sales in China saw a drop in 2022. This drop really hit Xiaomi smartphones quite hard with a drop of 22.8% in Q4 of 2022.
In an article that was published in Financial Times, Lei Jun admitted that the company has dropped in sales and that he was not satisfied. Initially, the CEO attributed the decline in sales to the COVID-19. On the flip side, users are gradually switching to Samsung.
In the Indian market for example, Xiaomi has always been the top brand for years. However, the Beijing company has lost the Indian crown to Samsung who now tops the Indian market. Xiaomi’s strength in India has always been its cheaper prices, but things are changing swiftly. An analyst explained that this could be as a result of people switching to more expensive models.
He further indicated that most people who go in for cheaper phones did so due to financial difficulties. Once they landed a good paying job, they would want to go in for more expensive smartphones.
Xiaomi can regain its market in India if they closely analyze the cause of this decline. For example, they could add more great features to their flagship and midrange smartphones and also make them cheaper. Who wouldn’t buy the best quality for the best price? Most people will.
