Amazon Removes Purchases From Kindle for Android - PCMag

https://ift.tt/6JFwpLa

Amazon has removed purchases from the Kindle app for Android devices in accordance with a new Google Play Store policy that requires developers to implement Google's billing system.

Google previously allowed some developers, including Amazon, to use their own payment mechanisms in their Android apps rather than relying on Google Pay. But now Google is being more strict about enforcing this policy, so Amazon's decided to remove purchases entirely.

Ars Technica reports that Amazon first responded to this policy by nixing audiobook purchases in the Audible app for Android on April 1. Now the company has also removed the ability to buy ebooks from the Kindle app, and has halted sales made via the Amazon Music app, too.

Amazon isn't the only company making these changes. Barnes & Noble announced in April that it would no longer be able to sell ebooks, audiobooks, or anything else via the Nook app for Android devices. (Including the company's Nook HD 10” Designed with Lenovo tablet.)

Both companies still offer digital content sales via their mobile websites, and Ars Technica reports that Amazon continues to sell physical books via its primary Android app, too.
