What Is Deco Pic On Android & Can You Delete It? | Screen Rant - Screen Rant

The latest Samsung update has seemingly installed an app called 'Deco Pic' that many users are reporting as bloatware. Timely updates have never been Samsung's strong suit, but things have changed over the past couple of years when the company has been a little more proactive with the update schedule for its smartphones. Unfortunately, while most updates bring new features, functionality, and bug fixes, the latest seems to have brought a new app that not many are happy about.

Unwanted apps are a problem across the entire Android ecosystem, and not just Samsung devices. This is why many Android users prefer Google's Pixel phones for offering a bloat-free pure Android experience. However, the Deco Pic app, in particular, is an unnecessary add-on from Samsung. Even more alarming are the number of permissions it asks, most of which aren't required by apps in its category.

Deco Pic is Samsung's in-house photo and video editing app that offers various features, including live stickers, masks, and more. However, many complain that the app requires several permissions that photo editing apps should not need. In fact, the app's listing page on the Galaxy Store also admits that it requires telephone permission, location permission, and microphone permission, none of which are standard for photo editing apps. It also requires storage and camera permissions, which are to be expected from video editing applications.

Some of the features of the Deco Pic app, like stickers, and masks, were already available as part of the default camera app in Samsung phones, but the company has now apparently made a separate app in the belief that it would make the features easier to access for users. However, not many people are on-board with the new app, and on a Reddit thread, many say that the change left them confused on whether it is malware that found its way to their device somehow. Thankfully, it is not malware in the truest sense of the term, but given that it is an unwanted app for most users, it could certainly be categorized as bloatware.

Many users have been posting about difficulties in uninstalling Deco Pic from their devices. While some claim they've been able to successfully uninstall the app in developer mode, others say they've been able to disable it on their devices but not uninstall it. One Redditor claimed that they could uninstall it using the system app manager on their device, although that cannot be confirmed at this point. Still, it is worth giving it a shot, so to users wanting to try that can go to 'Settings,' select 'Apps,' find 'Deco Pic,' then hit the three-dot menu button at the top-right and select 'Uninstall Updates.' This will reportedly uninstall the new updates to the Deco Pic app on Samsung devices.
